There are actually two separate facilities -- Heart And Vascular Institute and Children's Hospital.  The Institute is the home of the area's leading peripheral arterial disease research while the Children's facility has the only pediatric intensive care unit in the surrounding area. The entire atmosphere is not just child-friendly, but takes advantage of the latest technological advances to help its patients.
 
Close coordination with the Centers For Disease Control And Prevention (CDC) helped Inova create a task force to deal with any outbreak of the 2014 Ebola virus outbreak. Preparation drills and creation of a potential action plan were available to treat any potential victims of the deadly disease. Even upon eradication, the readiness remained in place. Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center is located in the central part of the state in Richmond. The Children's Hospital of Richmond is also part of the group and is widely recognized in the state for their treatment of children. University Of Virginia Medical Center is a highly-ranked health system located in Charlottesville. It opened its doors in 1901 and includes an academic center and one of the best children's facilities in the area. It's principal treatment area is the central portion of the state and it also has a school of nursing and medicine for students.
 
Among their highly-touted specialties are Cancer, neurology, endocrinology and diabetes. Historically, this facility has been ranked among the top 50 hospitals in the country and many of its practicing physicians are highly-acclaimed.
 
Recently, Uva, became the sole owner of Culpeper Regional Hospital (Previously, they shared ownership). Between $40 million and $50 million will be invested in Culpeper over the next decade and the Wellness Foundation will receive a major infusion of funds. The CRH Foundation and Hospital Auxiliary are important components of this 50-year old hospital.
 
 
Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital is also located in the central part of Virginia (Richmond) and is  constantly recognized for their excellence in critical care, prostatectomy and emergency medicine.  Their birthing center has also been nationally recognized. As a non-profit facility, it offers a comprehensive list of inpatient and outpatient treatment including geriatrics, urology, endocrinology, orthopedics and gynecology. Additional beds (about 60) are also available for neonatal intensive care.
 
Carilion also has earned the prestigious "Magnet" designation. Awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, superior professionalism and excellence in nursing is recognized. This is the third time the award has been given to the Hospital, which is the only facility in the area to earn that distinction. Compassion and commitment are clearly evident.
 
The facility also accepts most major health insurance plans, which makes shopping for quality affordable coverage easier.
