2026 Medicare Part D coverage in Virginia provides comprehensive prescription drug benefits. You can choose stand-alone plans (PDPs) that meet your medical and budget needs. Many Advantage contracts also offer drug benefits. Prices, copays, and deductibles vary, depending on the carrier and policy. HMO and PPO Advantage plans are offered. Generic drugs are the least expensive option and are typically considered as "Tier 1" drugs. Tier 2 (preferred brand name) and Tier 3 (non-preferred brand-name) drugs are also popular.
A total of nine PDP plans are available for 2026, including four enhanced (EA) plans and five basic (AE, DS, and BA) plans. One $0 deductible option is also offered. The average monthly premium of all plans is $48.89, which slightly decreased from last year's premium. The lowest cost for a $0 deductible plan is $87.60 (Humana Premier Rx). Last year's premium was $105.40.
Four plans are offered with monthly premiums 0f $0. The four plans are Humana Basic Rx Plan, Humana Value Rx Plan, Wellcare Classic, and Wellcare Value Script.
The most expensive plan is HealthSpring Assurance Rx at $133.80 per month. Plans with the largest number of in-state members (last year) are SilverScript Choice, SilverScript SmartSaver, AARP MedicareRX Preferred from UHC, Humana Walmart Value Rx, Wellcare Classic, and Wellcare Value Script.
Your 2026 Part D plan works with your Part A and/or Part B coverage. Provided pharmacy networks may lower your out-of-pocket costs. Formularies list covered generic and brand-name medications, and help customers work with their doctors and specialists to choose the best option. Five plans previously offered some additional gap coverage (Donut Hole). They were SilverScript Plus, Humana Walmart Value Rx Plan, Humana Premier Rx Plan, AARP Medicare Rx Walgreens from UHC, and Cigna Extra Rx. The donut hole has now been eliminated.
A Formulary can change, but not without written notice. The standard initial deductible of $615 increased $25 from last year. There are two LIS Qualifying plans. The national PDP providers are Aetna Medicare Cigna Healthcare, Humana, UnitedHealthcare, and Wellcare. 33% of all consumers received a rate increase for this year.
Virginia Medicare Supplement plans and Advantage policies can also be purchased in all counties. Rates and benefits will vary.
